We answered

Our Ref:         FOI-1797-1718

Thank you for your request received on 6 October 2017 asking for information about updated DBS.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. You asked:

“From the 13,000 private hire drivers you recently contacted to reapply for their dbs checks and you confirm:

1) number (from 13,000) that reapplied within 28 days
2) breakdown (number of) of those that reapplied and had a success full dbs check
3) breakdown of those that didn't have a successful check and the reason why and categorised “

Following a review of around 13,000 records, TfL has written to 2,621 private hire licensees and 852 applicants informing them that they will need to obtain a new enhanced DBS check via GB Group. The review process is ongoing.

The length of time it takes for each DBS check to be processed by the Disclosure and Barring Service and received by TfL varies depending on the applicant and is outside of our control.

Unfortunately we do not hold the information you have requested as the applications are still being processed. To provide you with information on the records that have been processed would exceed the appropriate cost limit.

Under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, we are not obliged to comply with a request if we estimate that the cost of determining whether we hold the information, locating and retrieving it and extracting it from other information would exceed the ‘appropriate limit’ of £450 set by the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004. To provide the information you have requested in relation to the drivers that were contacted and provision of a breakdown of the subsequent applications would exceed this limit. This is because we would need to manually check each of the driver records and manually record the information requested.

Please accept our apologies that we are unable to assist you further on this occasion.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
