Thank you for your request which we received on 29 August 2024, asking for information about speed restrictions on the Victoria line.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You specifically asked:

Speed Restrictions:

- The exact locations where speed restrictions have been imposed on the southbound alignment between Oxford Circus and Green Park stations.

BRS 680m to 698M.

- The dates when these speed restrictions were first implemented and the duration for which they have been active.

The speed restriction was first put in on 16 January 2023.

- The expected timeline for the current speed restrictions to remain in place on this section of the line.

Until works have been completed on the tunnel lining, delay caused by presence of asbestos in caulking.

State of Track, Tunnel, and Temporary Works:

- Information regarding the current state of the track and tunnel within the speed-restricted section.

This section is being monitored for movement. There is an ongoing water leak which is filling up the track bed, the shingle has been removed from circa 30 beds to allow for this and all track work has been completed and is in good condition.

- Details about any temporary works currently in place within this section, particularly those that may be contributing to the rattling noise heard inside trains as they pass through this area.

The shingle has been removed from the beds to allow noise to emanate from the area. The tunnel is still being monitored for movement.

Planned or Ongoing Works:

- Details of any maintenance or upgrade works currently being carried out or planned in the affected section and the expected completion dates.

We have appointed a specialist contractor to deliver the asbestos work to resolve the leak and address the issues with the caulking project and stabilising the tunnel.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
