Date published: 26 October 2018

You asked

What is the strategy to manage the large area underneath Tower Gateway currently used by rough sleepers, drug addicts and vulnerable people? What was the cost of the bailiffs used in the most recent eviction activity?

We answered

TfL Ref: 1767-1819

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 4 October 2018 asking for information about the area underneath Tower Gateway DLR Station.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.

Ownership of and access to the land is complicated involving multiple stakeholders, including TfL, Network Rail, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and the British Transport Police. While there is no overarching collective strategy document, we've been working together for some time to try and make a resolution for this area that satisfies the legal and contractual obligations of all stakeholders, and is mutually acceptable to all.

The recent eviction was undertaken by Network Rail and their associated sub-contractors therefore we do not hold this information. Please contact Network Rail should you require any further information at https://www.networkrail.co.uk/who-we-are/transparency-and-ethics/freedom-information-foi/ or email [email protected].

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
