TfL Ref: FOI-1755-1920
Thank you for your request of 10th September 2019 asking for information about stolen baggage on the TfL network.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“I would be grateful if you would supply the following details:
The number of stolen backpacks in the last 12 months,
The number of stolen handbags in the last 12 months,
The number of stolen suitcases in the last 12 months.”
TfL does not hold the requested information. While we hold some data on the number of reported thefts on different transport modes under our jurisdiction (you may be interested in the data published on our website here: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/crime-and-incident-bulletins), we do not have that data broken down by specific item.
It is possible that either the British Transport Police (BTP) or the Metropolitan Police may hold some of the detail you are after.
Details of how to contact the BTP for information can be found online here:
https://www.btp.police.uk/about_us/your_right_to_information/freedom_of_information.aspx
Requests to the Metropolitan Police can be made online here:

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
