TfL Ref: 1716-1819

Thank you for your emails received by us on 27 September and 2 October 2018 asking for information about weekly station entry and exit usage based on fares for daily travel rather than season tickets, which are valid for seven days or longer. I am sorry for the delay in responding.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked for:

weekly usage statistics of all london stations showing entries and exits at each station for the year 2017 and 2018 up to the current week. Could you also provide if a regular priced ticket or a season ticket was used.

By 'regular priced ticket', i mean a ticket that isn't a season ticket

Attached is a spreadsheet providing a breakdown of weekly travel taps made by customers using stations managed by Transport for London (TfL) on the London Underground, Docklands Light Railway, London Overground, TfL Rail and Tram networks. National Rail stations are managed by various rail operating companies whose contact details can be found via the following link:  http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/tocs_maps/tocs/TrainOperators.aspx

Please note that private companies are not legally obliged to respond under Freedom of Information legislation.

This data has been extracted from our ticketing system, and as such is reliant on customers validating an Oyster card, contactless payment card, linked mobile device or magnetic paper ticket at a ticket barrier or standalone passenger validator device.

There are three types of validation recorded in the system as listed on the attached spreadsheet:

o Entry - when a customer validates a ticket upon entering a station
o Exit - when a customer validates a ticket upon exiting a station
o Passenger Validator - when a customer validates a contactless payment card on a standalone passenger validator – commonly found at ‘ungated’ stations. Due to the nature of the ticketing system, taps under this category are not registered as entry or exit taps; customer journeys are constructed separately.

We do not to hold a breakdown of ticket type as our ticketing data is not recorded in the format requested.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
