Changes to Birdcage Walk design specifications
Request ID: FOI-1653-1718
Date published: 19 October 2017
You asked
Can you please supply me with any information you hold relating to changes in the specification of the Birdcage Walk cycle path regarding the placement of light segregation (eg wands) as shown in the consultation documents.
This may be found in correspondence with or instruction to contractors, or detailed design documents.
I do not need every piece of information relating to a change, or perhaps a schedule to implement wands at a later date, so just the most relevant documents confirming what is taking place and what design is being implemented and when will do.
The team managing the contractors and design of the east-west cycle superhighway should have this information.
We answered
Our Ref: FOI-1653-1718
Thank you for your request received on 27 September 2017 asking for information about the proposed changes to Birdcage Walk.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.
As per the consultation documents, we will be providing a new two-way cycle track along Birdcage Walk that will be segregated by flexible bollards, also known as “wands” or “pole cones”. These are being installed rather than full kerb segregation due to the ceremonial event requirements within St James’s Park.
The design has not changed since consultation and these documents can be found on our website https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/cycling/east-west-spur-road/.
Construction works are currently in progress within St James’s Park and we expect the works to be complete by the end of the year.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please feel free to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
