We answered

Dear

TfL Ref: FOI-1604-1819

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 September 2018.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm we hold some of the information you require.

TfL support the social model of disability which upholds that it is a disabled person’s environment that limits their ability to complete a task. To support employees who have declared their disability and need an adjustment to their working environment, we have in place a reasonable adjustment process to support them to fulfil their roles, a staff network Group that provide a forum for employees to share ideas and support each other in developing our equality agenda in all areas of employment, and ensure our employees have sufficient disability equality awareness training.

As a Disability Confident employer we actively look to attract and recruit disabled people via our inclusive and accessible recruitment process. We demonstrate this by offering an interview to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria for the role; and by being flexible when assessing people so job applicants with a disability have the best opportunity to demonstrate that they can do the role. We also encourage our suppliers and partner firms to be Disability Confident,  as well as providing a work experience programme for adults with learning disabilities.

Please note in April 2018, we launched the first version of our Diversity and Inclusion Dashboards, providing further data and insight to our senior managers. The dashboards give a much richer and insightful picture of employee outcomes for a number of characteristics covered by the Equality Act.

*The % of Yes/No declarations is used in TfL for Workforce Representativeness Index scorecard results and on the Diversity & Inclusion Dashboards. Because it was originally benchmarked against the 2011 Census, where non declaration wasn’t an option, this figure reduces the population size to only those who we know have or don’t have a disability. (Figures taken from Period 6 2018, 16th September 2018).
