Our ref: FOI-1597-1920
Thank you for your request received on 27 August 2019 asking for information about Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs).
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our Information Access Policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you requested. You asked for:
-Total number of incidents in TfL area involving HGV’s for the past two years
-Breakdown of incidents relative to seriousness i.e. minor incident, serious injury, fatality
-Fault factor relative to each incident breakdown (HGV Driver or VRU or third party)
-Fault percentages for each incident group (HGV Driver or VRU or third party)
The latest information we hold relating to incidents involving HGVs can be on found our website: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/road-safety
Under ‘collision data extracts’, attendant, casualty and vehicle information within each data set can be linked by the unique collision reference number, making it possible for you to filter to just collisions involving a HGV form the last two years and see the severity of the collision. You will also be able to see what other vehicles were involved, who was injured, weather and light conditions etc.
In accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with a copy of the requested information as it is already accessible to you elsewhere.
Please note that our collision data does not show “fault’” but would need to be analysed to build up an understanding of how a collision occurred. We also receive contributory factors relating to collisions but these are not published on our website due to their subjective nature. Contributory factors are the reporting officer's opinion at the time of reporting and may not be the result of extensive investigation.
If this is not the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely,
