FOI request detail

KSI count

Request ID: FOI-1562-2021
Date published: 23 November 2020

You asked

It has come to my attention that Transport for London operates a KSI policy relevant to its management of roads. I should like a copy, under Freedom of Information, of the current version of this policy, including an explanation of how these incidents are counted (i.e. how many people are involved in any accidents/incidents counted as one (1) KSI).

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-1562-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9 November 2020, asking for information about a KSI (Killed or Seriously Injured) policy.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. We are not entirely sure what information you require and we do not hold a KSI policy.

Personal injury collision and casualty information for London is recorded by the Metropolitan and City of London Police services using Department for Transport STATS20 national guidance, more details on what is recorded can be found in the document Instructions for the Completion of Road Accident Reports which you can find here.

We publish data on personal injury road traffic collisions and casualties here.

The Mayor’s aim is for no one to be killed in or by a London bus by 2030, and for all deaths and serious injuries from road collisions to be eliminated from London’s streets by 2041. Transport for London’s Vision Zero Action Plan sets out how this can be achieved and includes details of how progress will be monitored.

If you are considering submitting a further FOI request please think carefully about whether the request is essential at this current time, as answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by the current situation.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
