We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-1504-2223

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 22nd September 2022 asking for information about our energy use estimates.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Please share TfL's estimated energy costs for the period ending March 2025. Per a statement from TfL's Lilli Matson:

"We have pre-purchased supplies and 'locked-in' prices in advance via the Crown Commercial Service until March 2023. We also have a significant proportion of our energy costs protected until 2025."

I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

TfL’s estimated electricity costs to the year 2024/25 are as follows:

2022/23 = £264.2m
2023/24 = £299.9m
2024/25 = £341.8m

Through careful strategic forward planning of our energy requirements, we have pre-purchased supplies and 'locked-in' prices in advance via the Crown Commercial Service until March 2023. We also have a significant proportion of our energy costs protected until 2025. As these were secured before recent market price rises they will help reduce the immediate significant financial impact posed by the current market situation. Note that TfL is London’s largest consumer of electricity, with between 98% and 99% of this consumed by our passenger operations.
