Request ID: FOI-1496-2122
Date published: 20 October 2021

You asked

Dear Sir/Madam, Please could you supply the following. 1) How many Train Operators are employed at each crew depot on London Undeground. How many posts and how many vacancies are there at each depot. 2) when you last advertised internally for Train Operators. 3) When you next plan to advertise train operators and are there any plans to advertise these roles externally. 4) Salary of train operator. 5) Service Controller or signal operators, any plans to advertise these externally? Not connected, but if possible, are you able to supply the new audio announcements, recently installed on 95 stock trains for the Battersea Power Station extension. This would only be a few files, so these could be sent by email. Thanks

We answered

TfL Ref: 1496-2122

Thank you for your request received by us on 6 October 2021 asking for information about London Underground Train Operators and recruitment in this area.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

How many Train Operators are employed at each crew depot on London Underground. How many posts and how many vacancies are there at each depot.

Please see the following table as extracted from our database, which lists the number of Full Time Employees (FTE), in addition to headcount at each of our 30 depots.

Please also note that it is rare a vacancy occurs since we tend to have a buffer of staff available, which is higher than the agreed minimum number of staff per depot. There are currently no vacancies at any of these locations.

Key:
C & H – Circle and the Hammersmith & City lines.
Picc – Piccadilly line.
Met – Metropolitan line.

When you last advertised internally for Train Operators.

We last advertised internally for this position in 2019.

When you next plan to advertise train operators and are there any plans to advertise these roles externally.

Service Controller or signal operators, any plans to advertise these externally?

We are currently unable to say at this stage, as any such decision will be based upon natural attrition. However, we have no plans to advertise these positions externally.

Salary of train operator.

£58,949.00 per annum.

Not connected, but if possible, are you able to supply the new audio announcements, recently installed on 95 stock trains for the Battersea Power Station extension. This would only be a few files, so these could be sent by email.

Your email account has now been added to the permissions list to access the audio recordings and you should now have an email with a link enabling you to access the folder (please check your spam folder if this is not visible).

Upon opening the link you will be asked to verify your account which will generate a code to be send to your email address which is only valid for 15 minutes (you may need to check your spam folder). Once that code is entered you will have access to the relevant files which can then be downloaded. Should you encounter any difficulty with this please contact
[email protected]

Please note that while access to the announcements has been provided to you under the Freedom of Information Act, you are not granted any rights to any of the intellectual property that exists in it or granted any permission to make secondary uses of it. TfL owns all intellectual property (including, without limitation, copyright) in the material supplied and will defend such rights.

If you wish to make any secondary use of the material provided, you must first obtain the consent of TfL (which may be withheld) and, if consent is granted, a fee may be charged, in accordance with the terms of the Reuse of Public Sector Information Regulations 2005.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
