Renaming of Chiswick Police Station to Old Market Place
Request ID: FOI-1471-2223 Date published: 17 October 2022
You asked
Recently the names of 3 bus stops on Chiswick High Road were changed. It appears that TfL were duped into doing so.
It would appear that someone contacted TfL on 25 April via the Streetcare site. Reference was made to the location being Old Market Place on Google Maps. It is not, and has never been. Further street names have to be properly consulted on, there has never been a consultation, it would be worth speaking with the 3 Ward Councillors for Chiswick Gunnersbury to check.
Can you provide copies of all correspondence to TfL via Streetscape, email and letter in regard to changing the name of Old Market Place and any replies.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 20 September 2022 asking for information about renaming of Chiswick Police Station to Old Market Place, and for the clarification.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.
TfL has the authority to rename their own bus stops therefore no consultations are required only in cases of the resiting of bus stops and shelters do TfL consult. TfL changed the name to Old Market Place (see photo attached) following requests from members of the public and the fact that Chiswick Police Station had closed down.
A Streetcare report was received on 25 April 2022 for shelter 0118/0002. Access to link below..
An additional request also came in via our Customer Services team. Copies of the emails relating to this are attached. The new name order was placed on our works reporting system (also attached) and the works were completed on the 17/06/2022.
Stop names do change occasionally to reflect changes within the location of the bus stop similar to this case. Replacement names should relate to the area. For example in this case Old Market Place runs along this section of the High Street and is in front of the original police station premises.
