Bus stop 'MP - Tunnel Avenue' located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich has been closed for some time, with the closure notice on the bus stop indicating that this is for safety reasons. Could you please provide copies of any reports relating to the closure and future re-opening of this bus stop.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9 August 2019 asking for information about the closure of Bus stop MP - Tunnel Avenue.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked for copies of any reports relating to the closure and future re-opening of bus stop MP - Tunnel Avenue located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich which has been closed for some time, with the closure notice on the bus stop indicating that this is for safety reasons.

The visibility of the traffic signals at the Toucan crossing to other vehicles has been raised recently by members of the public, one via a Member of Parliament.  One of the issues is that if a bus is waiting at this bus stop on the southbound approach the visibility of the crossing is reduced.

TfL has prepared a feasibility report recommending a solution to this safety concerns around the crossing visibility. One of the solutions is to extend the back end of the bus cage to enable buses to stop further back from the crossing. These works are to be carried out by Royal Borough of Greenwich.  Please find this attached.

Please note that in accordance with TfL’s obligations under Data Protection legislation some personal data has been removed, as required by section 40(2) of the FOI Act. This is because disclosure of this personal data would be a breach of the legislation, specifically the first principle which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions which would make the processing ‘fair’.

The location of this bus stop at Tunnel Avenue is on a borough road and not on the Transport for London Route Network (TLRN) therefore the recommendation was submitted to the Royal Borough of Greenwich both on the 22 June and 13 August 2019 for their comments and approval to go ahead. The Bus Stop has been temporarily suspended until a solution is provided.
