Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7 October 2020 asking for information about Private Hire drivers.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.
London licensed private hire drivers are permitted to work for one or more private hire operators if they choose to do so. Additionally, all London licensed private hire operators are required to provide us with the details of the vehicles and drivers they have used to fulfil private hire bookings, or have had available to fulfil bookings on a weekly basis.
Between the week commencing 1 March – 31 March 2020, 35,070 private hire drivers were declared as being available to fulfil bookings by one private hire operator.
Between the week commencing 1 March – 31 March 2020, 42,288 private hire drivers were declared as being available to fulfil bookings by between two and five private hire operators .
We record this information in bands, which show those drivers available for bookings with one private hire operator, 2-5 operators, 6-9 operators, and 10+ operators. Therefore we cannot readily advise you of the number of drivers available to fulfil bookings specifically with 2, 3 or 4 operators as requested.
If this is not the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me.
If you are considering submitting a further FOI request please think carefully about whether the request is essential at this current time, as answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by the current situation.
