Our Ref:         FOI-1164-1819

Thank you for your request received on 27 July 2018 asking for information about the cost of the Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf crossing Project.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and our information access policy. We do hold the information you require.

As at 21 July 2018, the total spend on the Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf crossing project is £5.4m.

With regards to the potential costs incurred if the project were to terminate, in accordance with the EIR, we are not obliged to supply the specific information you have requested as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information under regulation 12(5)(e). This is because disclosure of the information you have requested is likely to prejudice our commercial interests.

Releasing an estimate of potential costs arising from termination at this stage would be likely to negatively impact our ability to negotiate effectively with those impacted, and therefore have a direct impact on our ability to obtain best value for money.

The use of this exception is subject to an assessment of the public interest in relation to the disclosure of the information concerned. Whilst we recognise the need for openness and transparency by public authorities, particularly around major projects, we feel that there is a greater public interest in ensuring that our commercial interests are protected to ensure that we continue to be able to obtain best value for money in ongoing and future projects.

With regard to your request for this information to be provided each quarter going forward, please make a request at the time you require the information as we do not have the resources to provide you with updates until a new request is submitted.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
