Cycling infrastructure colour specifications

Request ID: FOI-1141-1819
Date published: 07 August 2018

You asked

I am contacting TfL to request some information: I would like to know the colour specification for the following two cycle-related items: 1. the colour specification of the blue surface used for TfL Cycle Superhighways 2. the colour specification for the purple signage used on TfL cycle Quietways. I have consulted your published TfL colour standard on https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/suppliers-and-contractors/design-standards but it does not contain specs for these two colours.

We answered

TfL Ref: 1141-1819

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 24 July 2018 asking for information about colour specifications.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.  You asked: I would like to know the colour specification for the following two cycle-related items:

1. the colour specification of the blue surface used for TfL Cycle Superhighways

2. the colour specification for the purple signage used on TfL cycle Quietways.

For the blue road surfacing used on the cycle Superhighways, the colour reference is RAL5015. This is stated in the London Cycling Design Standards, chapter 7, page 11. This document is available on our website, here: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/streets-toolkit

For Quietways, Pantone 2627 is the background colour for Quietway signs on the highway, but there are different references for any Quietway logo used in printed materials.  Please let me know if you want any further information on this.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
