You asked

I am interested in details regarding the number of payments made using contactless cards/devices on the London Underground network. 1) How many total payments/tap-outs were made on the London Underground network within the past year (or most recent year on record)? 2) Of the total payments/tap-outs, how many were made using a contactless debit or credit card? 3) Of the total payments/tap-outs, how many were made using an electronic device with NFC, e.g. an Apple or Android smartphone, or an Apple Watch? 4) Of the total payments/tap-outs, how many were made using an Oyster card? 5) Would it be possible to procure these numbers on a month-by-month basis over the year in question? I also have a separate request, as follows: 1) How many complaints has TfL received within the last year (or most recent year on record) regarding the absence of cash payments on London bus services? 2) Would it be possible to receive electronic copies of these complaints?

Thank you for your request received on 10 August 2017 asking for information about fare payments.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked for:

1) How many total payments/tap-outs were made on the London Underground network within the past year (or most recent year on record)?
2) Of the total payments/tap-outs, how many were made using a contactless debit or credit card?
3) Of the total payments/tap-outs, how many were made using an electronic device with NFC, e.g. an Apple or Android smartphone, or an Apple Watch?
4) Of the total payments/tap-outs, how many were made using an Oyster card?
5) Would it be possible to procure these numbers on a month-by-month basis over the year in question?
