Request ID: FOI-1085-2122 Date published: 17 September 2021
You asked
Please provide all noise level readings taken in and around canning town Station in the last 6 months. I am particularly interested in the readings taken in the brunel street works development. Please include specific readings and the floor level and apartment number or location the readings were taken on.
For clarity this request is linked to a noise complaint I have made, but was told by the customer service team no more action is planned as the average noise level is 45 dB. On my balcony readings are between 70 and 80 dB which is in the range which can cause hearing damage over time.

Please find attached copies of our Technical Noise and Vibration Reports for various properties based at Effra Gardens, Heartwell Avenue, London E16.
Based on these reports, the following table provides a summary of the results for the four properties that were inspected, each located on a different floor where noise readings were taken over a series of dates referenced below. These readings show the results from both before and after rail grinding was implemented. Readings were taken with the balcony doors of each property open as well as closed for comparative purposes.

We can advise that the westbound London Underground Jubilee line service was found to be the main source of noise. Rail grinding was implemented and noise levels reduced by around nine decibels (9dB); from 53.3dB down to 44.5dB.
Whilst the eastbound route is now the louder stretch of rail track, rail grinding is being planned for the near future. Additional readings will also be taken in this area in a matter of weeks.
