Request ID: FOI-1072-1920
Date published: 05 August 2019

You asked

Could you tell me what empirical data was used as the basis for the change in the 209 bus route so that it ended at Putney Bridge tube station rather than the south side of Hammersmith Bridge?

We answered

TfL Ref: 1072-1920

Thank you for your request received by us on 11 July 2019 asking for information about changes in service to bus route 2019.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked:

what empirical data was used as the basis for the change in the 209 bus route so that it ended at Putney Bridge tube station rather than the south side of Hammersmith Bridge?

I can advise that we analysed journey patterns using survey and ticketing data, which showed that around 50% of passengers who board or alight Hammersmith Bridge services in Hammersmith Bus Station interchange to London Underground services, rising to 77% on bus route 209. As most passengers on bus route 209 want to use London Underground services the route was initially diverted to give the nearest direct tube interchange.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
