We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-1043-2122
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 16 August 2021, asking about asbestos on the Victoria Line.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
Yes, there is asbestos present on the Victoria Line. In view of the age of the network and relevant dates of construction, as with other premises of similar age, asbestos was used for many applications throughout the London Underground network, most of it being installed during the mid-part of last century. Removal and remediation of this material has been carried out since the 1970’s, but despite this, asbestos is still present across the network, including the Victoria Line tunnels and stations.
In public areas the vastmajority of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) are contained behindstation finishes and cannot be accessed by the general public. Where areasof ACMs interface with the general public they are in a position wherethey cause no risk to the general public or staff.
We have processes and procedures in place to ensure that the management of asbestos is carried out in compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
