Our Ref: FOI-1004-1718
Thank you for your request received on 28 July 2017 asking for information about taxi and PHV licences.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our Information Access Policy. I can confirm that we hold some the information you require. You asked:
A. How many tfl licensed drivers are driving on a full uk driving licence
B. How many tfl licensed drivers are driving on a European licence
C. How many tfl licensed drivers are driving on international driving licenses
D. How many tfl licensed drivers are driving on provisional licenses
As part of the criteria to apply for a taxi or private hire drivers licence, an applicant must:
• Hold a full DVLA, Northern Ireland, or other EEA state driving licence that is at least three years old
• Have the right to live and work in the UK
TfL does not differentiate between the different forms of non-UK driving licences. However, we are able to provide a breakdown of UK and EEA licences held by all drivers.
Licence Type Active Licensed Drivers % of Total
UK Standard 138,758 98.4%
EEA Standard 2,266 1.6%
141,024 100%
If this is not the information you are looking for please feel free to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
