Request ID: FOI-0918-2324 Date published: 26 July 2023
You asked
In your quarterly reports you publish the number of injuries from "slips, trips and falls" but do not declare where incidents are heat related (despite publishing data on alcohol/intoxication related incidents). If you are unwilling to share heat related incidents with the public could you (1) share the number of "slips, trips and falls" by month. It is important that the public gain some sort of insight to heat related incidents on the tube so anything you can share there?
Clarification received 08/07/2023: Lets try the last year broken down by month.

TfL Ref: FOI-0918-2324
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 24th June 2023 asking for information about heat related trips, slips and falls on the London Underground.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“In your quarterly reports you publish the number of injuries from "slips, trips and falls" but do not declare where incidents are heat related (despite publishing data on alcohol/intoxication related incidents). On 8th July 2023 you clarified that you wanted to see data for the last year, broken down by month. The number of slips, trips and falls on the London Underground for the last full calendar year are shown in the table below, broken down by month as requested:

Please note that the numbers provided are the most up-to-date numbers we have (as of 21st July 2023) and provide the latest picture of incidents reported. Therefore, they are not necessarily comparable to any numbers published previously in the Safety, Health and Environmental reports. In terms of heat-related incidents, I am afraid that there is no quick, efficient or automated way of determining this. In order to do that, we would have to manually review each of the 2,243 individual incident reports. This is not possible within the costs limit for responding to FOI cases, as set out under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act. Under section 12, TfL is not required to provide information if it would cost more than £450 to determine if that information is held, and to then locate, retrieve or extract it from elsewhere. This is calculated at a rate of £25 per hour, equivalent to 18 hours work. Given the numbers involved, it is not possible to achieve such a manual review within the limit. In order to bring your request within the costs limit, you may wish to consider narrowing its scope.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely,
