Rail demand data for MSc Research project

You asked
I am an MSc student from Imperial College London studying for an MSc in Transport. I am conducting an MSc research project which involves developing a rail model for the UK and using GIS to analyse the data and produce useful data insights. To develop the model I am in need of rail demand data. As a full member of the PDFC, I believe that TFL has access to their own version of MOIRA 2.2 and are licensed to share it with third parties. I would greatly appreciate if TFL could aid myself and Imperial College London on this research project by sharing the demand outputs from MOIRA 2.2 with us.

We answered

Thank you for your email received by us on 11 July 2017 asking for information about the demand outputs from rail demand forecasting model MOIRA 2.2. as part of your data research project at Imperial College.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy.

Unfortunately we do not hold the information you have requested as this forecasting tool is held by the Rail Delivery Group who own MOIRA on behalf of the UK’s Train Operating Companies.

As Imperial College London is an associate member of the Passenger Demand Forecasting Council, which is the part of the Rail Delivery Group that manages the Moira 2.2 model, we advise that you approach the Rail Delivery Group directly through your College’s established communication channels or refer to their website at: https://www.raildeliverygroup.com/contact-us.html for further assistance.
