We answered

TfL Ref 0835-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 August 2020 asking for information about the use of pit blocks and track changes on the London Underground at Chalk Farm in 2019.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy.

I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.  You asked:

1. Please answer the question on pit blocks by providing information on the material composition of these “pit block” as recently fitted to the chalk farm area in 2019, including Specification of the composition and the acoustic properties of the blocks. This should be readily to hand.

2. Please provide the information as to whether the pit block composition fitted at chalk farm in 2019 differed from those in situ prior to the works and if so, how. This should be readily to hand.

3. Please answer the question as to what track layout changes took place at chalk farm in 2019, which should be readily to hand.

The pit blocks at Chalk Farm area were not changed in 2019. The material composition of the pit blocks is in accordance with BS EN 13230. The blocks are made of steel reinforced concrete and do not perform a noise reduction role.

Additionally, there were no track layout changes that impact signalling, speed of our trains or brake rates in the Chalk Farm area. The Northern Line Extension (NLE) works referred to in our previous response involve extending the Northern line from Kennington to Battersea power station but this has no impact to the track in the Chalk Farm area.

The impact of current circumstances on TfL’s resources means we are not able to answer FOI requests readily and we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.

Answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the current situation.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
