We answered

Our ref: FOI-0824-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 11 June 2024 asking for information about speeding motorbikes.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.

I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require. You asked:

What percentage of motorbikes are caught speeding by fixed cameras in London ?

We do not hold this information. The Metropolitan police (MPS) enforce speeding.

Do fixed speed cameras catch all motorbikes that break the speed limit and if not, why not?

Our static speed cameras are rear facing and therefore, are able to identify motorbikes that are caught speeding by the camera.

The police use the registration plate details to obtain information pertaining to the registered keeper of the vehicle which, in turn, enables them to send a Notice of Intended Prosecution and commence criminal proceedings. TfL and the MPS are committed to tackling speeding across the capital, irrespective of which form of vehicle is used.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
