FOI request detail

Map of routes of cycle superhighways and quiet ways

Request ID: FOI-0778-1920
Date published: 02 July 2019

You asked

Dear Sir/Madam, Please could you share a map, divided into a maximum of 7 documents, which show the current cycleways (both quiet ways and cycle superhighways) within the North and South circular. This could show a wider geographical area if this information is more easily accessible, or could show all cycle routes, but should at a minimum show all segregated and semi segregated cycle paths. I would hope that the map would be in a format similar to the maps which TfL publishes for each quietway route, but compiled on a single map. This would allow a better network view of all the London cycle routes. Best Regards,

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 15 June 2019.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

Please could you share a map, divided into a maximum of 7 documents, which show the current cycleways (both quiet ways and cycle superhighways) within the North and South circular.

A map showing completed cycle routes is available on the Transport for London (TfL) website at https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/routes-and-maps. The map shows all signed Superhighway and Quietway routes including segregated, semi-segregated and non-segregated interventions.

In addition to this, we are also developing the world’s largest and most detailed Cycling Infrastructure Database, which will include details of cycling infrastructure across Greater London, including cycle lanes, signed routes and cycle parking. This will be available as open data, free of charge, later in the year.

In accordance with the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with a copy of the map as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information, under Section 22 of the Act.

In this instance the exemption has been applied as the information you have requested is intended for future publication. The map is currently being developed and will be published on the TfL website later this year.

The use of this exemption is subject to an assessment of the public interest in relation to the disclosure of the information concerned. TfL recognises the need for openness and transparency by public authorities and the particular public interest in disclosure of this information, However in this instance, it is considered that the public interest favours the publication of this information, in context and according to the pre-determined schedule, rather than in response to your request, to ensure the information is provided accurately and in an accessible manner.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
