FOI request detail

Hourly traffic counts data for London Marylebone Rd

Request ID: FOI-0660-1718
Date published: 30 June 2017

You asked

I am a MSc student of Air Pollution Management and Control in the University of Birmingham and I am currently investigating on the relationship between modelled data and observations for the final dissertation. During processing I found that traffic count data is hard to find. If possible, could you please provide me the hourly traffic flow counting data of London Marylebone Rd in the whole year of 2010-2016 near the air quality monitor (at Grid Ref(528125, 182016 )? If the data is too large, just 2014-2016 would also be very helpful.

We answered

TfL Ref: 0660-1718

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 June 2017 asking for information about traffic counts data for Marylebone Rd.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Please find the data attached from 2010 to March 2012 (zip file) and for the period 1 April 2013 to 15 June 2017. The data for 2010 to 2012 is not in the same format as the remaining data as this was produced by different part of TfL, but it arises from the same counter.  Unfortunately the data for the period in between from April 2012 to April 2013 is not held.

The data provided from 1 April 2013 has been extracted via our Patched ATC (Automatic Traffic Counter) Database, and is provided in an hourly format as requested.

The Patched field indicates if patching has taken place for a given flow value. If there is no value in this column, the data has not been patched. The values in this field correspond to the three patching types in the ATC patching process:

Patch Type 1: A single occurrence of 5 minutes missing, patched by interpolation using the values of the five minute periods before and after.

Patch Type 2: More than 6 ‘5-minute’ values missing within an hour thus deemed to be no value for the hour, whole hour is patched using substitution value.

Patch Type 3: Difference between recorded value and substitution value exceeds threshold (flows are 75% below what we would normally expect ) so patched using substitution value.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
