Wrong side door openings

Request ID: FOI-0554-2425
Date published: 13 June 2024

You asked

An employment tribunal recently heard that Holborn's Central Line platform has a particular issue with this - where doors are opened on the wrong side to the platform - because the platform is on the other side to the stations both before and after it. This may be recorded under a different term or code under TfL's systems, but for avoidance of doubt I mean incidents in which the train's doors were opened on the opposite side to the platform for alighting. Therefore, I would like for the period from January 1, 2023 to present date (May 16, 2024) the following data: 1) The total number of 'wrong side door openings' recorded on London Underground trains for that period. 2) Please break down the figure in 1) by the station and platform at which it occurred and date on which it occurred. 3) If held, for each incident please detail whether the London Underground train had passengers on board.

I would like for the period from January 1, 2023 to present date (May 16, 2024) the following data:

1)         The total number of 'wrong side door openings' recorded on London Underground trains for that period.
2)         Please break down the figure in 1) by the station and platform at which it occurred and date on which it occurred.

We have robust measures in place to prevent occurrences of wrong side door opening incidents from taking place. However in the rare instance they do occur we have processes in place to respond and train both station staff and train operators in the process.

Below is a list of occasions this happened between January 1 2023 to May 16 2024, please note in all cases there were no reported injuries.
