We answered

Our ref: FOI-0541-2021/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 3 July 2020 asking for information about the scrappage scheme for vans.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

Can you please publish the amount of applications against actual payouts for this scheme since it's inception. ie:

How many applications have you received? 11,329

How many have been declined? 914

How many have been accepted? 3,259

How many have received the funds? 1,292

This information was correct as of 7 July 2020. The remaining applications are being process of being considered and pending a decision.

The difference between those applications accepted and those receiving funds, is due to the way the van scrappage scheme works operationally. When an application is accepted the applicant has six months to scrap the vehicle and provide evidence that they have done so. Funds are only released once the evidence has been received. There can therefore be a delay between the application being accepted and the funds being paid. Additionally some applicants who have their applications accepted do not provide the required evidence and so their accepted application expires and they never receive the funds.

If this is not the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The impact of current circumstances on TfL’s resources means we are not able to answer FOI requests readily and we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.

Answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the current situation.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
