FOI request detail

Employee Retention Levels

Request ID: FOI-0379-1718
Date published: 27 June 2017

You asked

It is based on employee retention levels within the underground and specifically about the impact of HR policies and strategies. I need to collect data for approximately the last 10 years in order to assist with my research. Is there any data that I may be able to access to assist me with my work.

We answered

TfL Ref: 0379-1718

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 6 June 2017 asking for information about recruitment and employment data.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Please find attached the results of reporting with some guidance inside the workbook that defines the data.

We have stated the number of employees at the end of each financial year in London Underground. We have also stated the number of leaving and joining actions to the company for those business areas within the years.

Please note that the numbers do not include internal movement. Internal movement is an integral part of any analysis when you are looking to find out if there is an issue with employees staying for a long or short time.

The leavers information takes into consideration all leaving types whereas ‘Turnover’ is traditionally based on only voluntary leavers.

There were 86 exit interview forms completed out of the 355 external leavers listed from the Capital Programmes Directorate since 2015. It is possible that we could provide a further report on these but the resulting information is such a small representation that no conclusions could be considered statistically significant.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
