In recent interviews and appearances in front of the London Assembly, CEO of Crossrail Mark Wild has repeatedly referenced 200 maintenance technicians that Crossrail have currently employed.
Could you please tell me the salaries or salary ranges for these 200 employees, and also the annual cost of the whole group?

Thank you for your request received on 6 May 2019 asking for information about Crossrail maintenance technicians.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.
Within the maintenance group of 200 staff, there are 136 maintenance technicians, including 40 apprentices. The remainder are engineers and managers. There are also currently 36 vacancies.
The pay bands for these members of staff are:
• Apprentice £19,268 - £29,627
• Technician £36,052 - £46,059
• Principal Technician £45,461 - £63,203
The overall annual cost for maintenance technicians is £7.9m.
These people were hired on the basis of the railway opening in December 2018, it was not until after they were hired that the previous Crossrail Limited management announced the delay. The vast majority are engaged in productive activity, including operating and maintaining TfL Rail services but it is of course frustrating that we are waiting for the railway to be complete before everyone can fully undertake their roles. Everyone involved in the Crossrail project is fully focussed on delivering the new railway for passengers as soon as possible.
