FOI request detail

The issue of 3,975 Penalty Charge Notices between 04/10/2019 and 18/11/2019 on one YBJ on West Hill, Wandsworth

Request ID: FOI-0352-2021
Date published: 26 June 2020

You asked

For the one YBJ site on West Hill Wandsworth that has been the subject of my past three seperate requests, 3,975 Penalty Charge Notices were ssued between 04/10/2019 and 18/11/2019. This number of PCNs is contrasted by the number which were issued after 19/11/2019 and between 03/01/2020, the total being1,499 . I am aware that a permit had been issued to Southern Gas in order that the exit route towards Roehampton from West Hill, be closed in order to access the road area at the junction to effect a repair to a gas leak.I am without any doubt that the restricted exit route and the need to impose a diversion for the outward flow of vehicles, was the obstacle that caused so many motorists to be in contravention of YBJ rules at this site. The revenue from the issue of this number of PCNs was quite considerable, <3,975 > my question is, what was this revenue used to finance after the removal of the roadworks and when the permit to Southern Gas from TFL expired on 18/11/2019

We answered

Our ref: FOI-0352-2021/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 6 June 2020 asking for information about revenue from Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs).

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.

You asked: What was this revenue used to finance after the removal of the roadworks and when the permit to Southern Gas from TFL expired on  18/11/2019.

Unfortunately we do not hold the information you require. We do not record specifically what the revenue from PCNs at any given location was used for. All net revenue is reinvested back into TfL services.

Please note, the Government has announced a series of measures to tackle the coronavirus. It is essential for London, that we continue to provide a safe transport network for essential journeys.
