I would like information on the cameras surrounding Rotherhithe Tunnel. Please tell me, what cameras there are on the entrances of the tunnel (both directions), what type of camera they are and what they monitor. E.g if they're speed cameras, yellow box cameras, red light cameras, etc.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 1 May 2019 asking for information about cameras surrounding Rotherhithe Tunnel.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require.  You asked: I would like information on the cameras surrounding Rotherhithe Tunnel. Please tell me, what cameras there are on the entrances of the tunnel (both directions), what type of camera they are and what they monitor, e.g if they're speed cameras, yellow box cameras, red light cameras, etc.

Transport for London has three types of safety cameras at the entrances and approaches to Rotherhithe Tunnel.  These systems are used for the safe and reliable operation of the tunnel.

  • Average speed enforcement system.
  • Goods vehicle weight enforcement system.
  • Traffic monitoring cameras.
