Route 456 bus speed

You asked

Follow-up to FOI-2145-2122: On the 21st January 2022 in response to the above FoI request it was stated; We will also arrange for some unannounced visits to carry out speed monitoring on this section of road as a follow-up assurance check. Please can you provide; 1) The dates and times on which these visits took place 2) Confirmation of the location(s) along route 456 that were subject to the visit 3) The records of such visits including any findings, and further actions required 4) Any correspondence with the route operator in relation to the visit(s) 5) The relevant dress code for the officer(s) undertaking the visit – specially if any TfL branded clothing was worn during the visit 6) If any equipment was used during the visit (such as speed measuring devices) – the type of equipment and calibration certificate. Whist I have responded to the initial email to provide ease of access to the original statement by your organisation I am happy for this to be treated as a new request under the FoI legislation.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9th May 2022 asking for information about the speed of route 456 buses.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

I can confirm that we hold the information you require. Your questions are answered in turn below. You wrote:

On the 21st January 2022 in response to the above FoI request it was stated;

Please can you provide;

Question 1) The dates and times on which these visits took place

Answer: 24th May 2022 at 12.00-13-30.

Question 2) Confirmation of the location(s) along route 456 that were subject to the visit

Answer: We used our speed compliance tool to identify where the highest number of speeding events occur on this route.  Monitoring staff were placed at the Strayfield Road junction with Theobalds Park Road and Clay Hill.

Question 3) The records of such visits including any findings, and further actions required

Answer: Please see attached excel spreadsheet for records of the findings. No speeding events were recorded.

Question 4) Any correspondence with the route operator in relation to the visit(s)

Answer: No such correspondence exists.

Question 5) The relevant dress code for the officer(s) undertaking the visit – specially if any TfL branded clothing was worn during the visit

Answer: Plain clothes were worn and a plain vehicle was used, with no branding.

Question 6) If any equipment was used during the visit (such as speed measuring devices) – the type of equipment and calibration certificate.

Answer: Please see attached pictures of the equipment used and the calibration certificate.
