FOI request detail

Zones covered in single journeys

Request ID: FOI-0123-1718
Date published: 12 September 2017

You asked

I would like to request a list of the minimum and maximum zones for each journey that could be made within the London PAYG area. I would like an entry for each possible route (if more than one route exists for a journey) and don't need an entry for both directions. Please exclude London Tram and Emirates Air Line journeys. I would like the following fields: - Origin station NaPTAN id e.g. 940GZZLUBWR - Destination station NaPTAN id - Minimum zone - Maximum zone - Route identifiers e.g. 'Avoiding Zone 1 via Blackhorse Road or via Tottenham Hale and Stratford' - The cost of that journey - What route type the journey includes (e.g. underground / dlr / overground / national rail) And I would also like another document (or page within a spreadsheet) that specifies the common Station Name (e.g. Bow Road Underground Station) for each NaPTAN id used. Also how often would this information be updated? When will the next update be?

Thank you for your email received by us on 17 April 2017 asking for information about  the minimum and maximum zones within the London Pay As You Go (PAYG) area.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked for:

A list of the minimum and maximum zones for each journey that could be made within the London PAYG area. I would like an entry for each possible route (if more than one route exists for a journey) and don't need an entry for both directions. Please exclude London Tram and Emirates Air Line  journeys.
I would like the following fields:
- Origin station NaPTAN id e.g. 940GZZLUBWR
- Destination station NaPTAN id
- Minimum zone
- Maximum zone
- Route identifiers e.g. 'Avoiding Zone 1 via Blackhorse Road or via Tottenham Hale and Stratford'
- The cost of that journey
- What route type the journey includes (e.g. underground / dlr / overground / national rail) And I would also like another document (or page within a spreadsheet) that specifies the common Station Name (e.g. Bow Road Underground Station) for each NaPTAN id used.
Also how often would this information be updated? When will the next update be?

Please see attached an Excel spreadsheet which contains the following information:

• PAYGJourneys tab: origin by National Location Code; destination by National Location Code; route code; low zone; high zone (please note that fares data is not configured using NaPTAN id)
• PAYGStations tab: converts NLCs into station names
• PAYGRouteDescriptions: converts route codes into text descriptions of routes.

Low zone and high zones are numbered from 1 to 14. Zones 1-9 are the zones as shown on the London Underground map. Zones 10-14 contain the following stations for the purpose of capping and (where appropriate) Travelcard acceptance:

Fare values are not included in the data; pricing information for individual journeys is already published on the TfL website (the Single Fare Finder):

https://tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/fares/single-fare-finder

Mode of travel is not included as we do not hold information accurate enough to determine this; many journeys can be made via a choice or combination of modes and it is not always possible to determine which mode or modes a customer has used in making a journey.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
