Could you please provide the following information regarding LU Rail Grinding department.
Who are the current contractors?
What type of services are provided by each contractor?
Have they tendered for the works? If yes, when?
Which companies have been invited for tendering?

What are the award dates and expiry dates of their contracts? If extended, what is the expiry date for each contract extension?

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 April 2021, asking about a contract for LU Rail Grinding.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
We have identified one contract, for the supply and operation of two rail grinding machines, that fits the requirements of your request. Please see the requested details below;

Who are the current contractors?
The current contract is with Schweerbau GmbH.
What type of services are provided by each contractor?
The contractor provides two machines used to grind the rail head to TfL standards.
Have they tendered for the works? If yes, when?
Yes, tender was concluded and the contract awarded in May 2019.
Which companies have been invited for tendering?
The tender was issued via RISQS and the three listed companies responded:
Linsinger Maschinenbau GmbH
Schweerbau GmbH
Speno International SPA
Are there any contracts awarded without tender and why?
No, the requirement was conducted via competitive tender.
What are the award dates and expiry dates of their contracts? If extended, what is the expiry date for each contract extension?
The 5 year contract was awarded in May 2019 expiring May 2024 with an option to extend for a further 2 years.
What is the contact value band for each contract?
The contract value is £33,600,000 to May 2024.
Could the principle contractors use subcontractors?
Yes.
