We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-0065-2223
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 11th April 2022 asking for information about Blackfriars Pier.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“What was the total cost for the construction of the Blackfriars Pier? And who was the primary contractor?”
I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.
Blackfriars pier was relocated and installed by Tideway as part of enabling works for Tideway Tunnel project. TfL was not the contractor for this project and did not pay anything for the works. The principal contractor for the works was Volkerstevin Limited and the principal designer was Arup. The pier was built in Holland by Ravestein. We do not hold the exact construction costs as the work was not carried out under a TfL contract. However, we understand that it was in the region of £8m. Note, however, that this also included the relocation of the Tattershall Castle which was part of the same construction contract.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely,
