FOI request detail

speed cameras

Request ID: FOI-0021-2021
Date published: 08 April 2020

You asked

There are average speed cameras across the A13, with speed limita ranging from 40 - 70mph on different sections. I drive frequently on the A13 and always adhere to the speed limit, but I notice the vast majority of motorists do not and I find myself being passed my a lot of vehicles even though I am going the greatest speed possible. It makes me wonder, are the cameras actually working or are they just “dummy” cameras. The reason I’m quite confused is, a friend of mine did indeed get a NIP for doing 60mph across the dagenham section. Reading along forums, a lot of people believe the cameras are all inactive, except one section. Between the 40mph section in Dagenham up to the national speed section in Rainham. And going the other way, the same thing but other way round. My FOI question in short is - are the cameras on? Lastly, if any, how many NIPs have you issued to motorists for speeding using the average speed cameras on the A13 since January 2020. And can you give an outline of the speeds and sections in which they were recorded

All of the safety cameras in London are fully operational and send violations to the Metropolitan police when captured.

Lastly, if any, how many NIPs have you issued to motorists for speeding using the average speed cameras on the A13 since January 2020.

And can you give an outline of the speeds and sections in which they were recorded.

Average speed cameras are enforced by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), so we do not hold the information you have requested. You can find details for submitting a Freedom of Information Request to the MPS at www.met.police.uk/foi.
