Tube 160 Treasure Hunt

Tuesday 10 January 2023 marks 160 years since the first-ever London Underground railway launched on the Metropolitan Railway between Paddington and Farringdon.

The Metropolitan Railway served Paddington (Bishop's Road), Edgware Road, Baker Street, Portland Road (now Great Portland Street), Gower Street (now Euston Square), King's Cross (now King's Cross St Pancras) and Farringdon Street (now Farringdon) stations.

To celebrate the anniversary, join us on 21 January 2023 to explore these original seven stations through a special treasure hunt. This treasure hunt will invite you to visit these original stations with a fresh eye, looking for various features that reflect the history built into these structures.

You can start and finish the treasure hunt at any of the stations on the original route. Look out for a TfL Ambassador by a gateline. They will hand out questions about the history of each station for you to answer during your time at each stop.

Once you've answered all the questions at one station, the TfL Ambassador will stamp the correct answers and you can travel to your next chosen stop on the original line. Collect stamps at each station to complete the treasure hunt and you'll win a surprise gift, while supplies last.

TfL Ambassadors will also be on hand to allow participants through the gates at each station to avoid incurring additional costs along the route.

Travel to the treasure hunt start isn't free, but once you're at a participating station, you can move in and out of the station gates without incurring a cost for each journey with the help of TfL Ambassadors. Please check the cost of your journey before you travel. Travel between Zones 1 and 2 from just £2.60 off-peak.
