On 31 March 2016 we submitted our application for a Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO). A TWAO would authorise the construction works and provide compulsory purchase powers for acquiring land and property interests, rights to use land on a permanent or temporary basis, and powers to complete street works and regulate traffic.
The TWAO application includes a request for planning permission for the BRE, including a new station at Barking Riverside.
It also contains a number of documents including a draft of the proposed Order with supporting plans, an Environmental Statement and a report summarising the consultation we carried out.
A public inquiry into the scheme was held 18-21 October 2016. The Planning Inspector will make a recommendation on our Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) application to the Secretary of State for Transport. The Secretary of State will then make a decision on the scheme - we expect to receive that in 2017.
We have also started the search for a contractor to build the extension. A notice has been put with the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) asking for expressions of interest.
We expect to issue a formal Invitation to Tender in 2017.
Our plans are outlined on the Barking Riverside extension project page.
