We submitted our application for a Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) in March 2016. The TWAO authorises the construction works and gives us compulsory purchase powers for acquiring land and property interests, rights to use land on a permanent or temporary basis, and powers to complete street works and regulate traffic.

Our TWAO application included a request for planning permission for the BRE, including a new station at Barking Riverside.

It contained a number of documents including a draft of the proposed Order with supporting plans, an Environmental Statement and a report summarising the consultation we carried out.

A public inquiry into the scheme, led by an independent inspector, was held in October 2016. The Secretary of State approved our TWAO application in August 2017 after a recommendation from the inspector.

The inspector's report and Secretary of State's decision letter are on Gov.UK.

Our plans are outlined on the Barking Riverside extension project page.
