Your degree: A predicted 2:1 (minimum) MEng in mechanical engineering, accredited by the IMechE, or a related subject
Eligibility: You must be between the second and third, or third and fourth year of a degree course and returning to university to complete your final year of study after this placement           
Scheme length: 10 weeks
Salary: £17,163

We're upgrading and renewing the infrastructure of the world's oldest and busiest underground railway with new technology and modern design. Major programmes and projects are currently transforming the Tube of the future, but we still have a commitment to keeping our network reliable and safe.

What you'll be doing

During your 10-week placement you'll be based in one team so you can really get to grips with this hands-on role. During that time, you could find yourself working in:

  • Rolling stock engineering
  • Track engineering
  • Lifts and escalators (L&E) engineering
  • Station system engineering
  • Asset management
  • Operational engineering

In any one of the following programmes across the business, including:

  • New Tube for London
  • Four Lines Modernisation (formerly Sub-Surface Upgrade)
  • Ventilation and cooling projects
  • Major station capacity projects
  • Major infrastructure projects

Fast tracking

At the end of your placement, you'll have the chance to be considered for a graduate position through our fast track process.

You'll be set clear objectives at the start of your placement and will complete performance reviews with your manager. If you perform well, you'll be eligible to apply to fast track through the graduate application process to the final assessment stage. If you pass your assessment successfully, you could got back to university with a guaranteed place on the 2018 graduate scheme.
