About the role

Initially, you'll have an induction based in London which explains everything there is to know about us, the role and where you fit in. Following that, you'll begin an intensive development programme designed to give your career a real kick start. You'll gain a broad knowledge of different types of projects, an insight into many different areas of our business and an understanding of what it takes to provide an internationally respected transport system in London.

Placements on this apprenticeship are split into four, six-month placements in Surface, Capital Programme Directorate and London Overground and could be in any of the following:

  • Projects & Programmes Directorate
  • Technology & Systems
  • Service Operations and Cycling
  • Highways Infrastructure
  • Road Space Management
  • Station Capacity
  • Station Upgrades
  • Power, Comms & Cooling
  • Rolling Stock Renewals
  • Track Delivery Unit

  • New Tube for London - Railway Control Systems, Rolling Stock, Infrastructure
  • Four Lines Modernisation

About you

As an apprentice, you'll learn the following project management competencies to Level 4 Diploma in Project Management:

  • Contract management
  • Communication

You'll achieve this through a combination of practical training, learning from our experienced project managers across the business and classroom-based training.

On this varied and challenging apprenticeship scheme, you'll gain a Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Project Management as well as a Level 4 Diploma in Project Management through completion of a portfolio of work and two exams.

At the end of the scheme, successful apprentices will move in to a project coordinator position, with further career progression opportunities such as assistant project manager, project manager and senior project manager. Our project management community is made up of over 1500 people which, combined with the fluid nature of projects, creates a variety of opportunities for staff to progress and develop in new areas.
