5 GCSE's A*-C (or equivalent) including maths and English language. Plus 2 A Levels A*-D (or equivalent). You are not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or are working towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a related subject and content from the qualification of this scheme. You must be 18 years of age by 1st September of the year in which you apply, to be eligible for this scheme.
You will be supporting your project team in their day to day tasks but no two days would be the same! Depending on your project you could be supporting the identification and management of risks to your project, working with a planner ensuring the schedule is accurate, drafting a report to senior management on progress or working with contractors to ensure that work is delivered on time. The teams you work in will be various sizes but everyone, including you, will have a key role to play.
You'll complete 4 six-month placements which could be in surface, major projects directorate, London Underground and surface rail. You'll learn to consolidate and manage planning schedules, support the development of business cases for new projects, assessing the risks and benefits, whilst remaining commercially aware by considering budgets so that the team can ensure they reach financial targets.
For the duration of the scheme you'll have a business sponsor that is responsible for the design and delivery of the apprenticeship scheme. They will help secure the right placements for you and support you in your professional development. You'll also have a mentor that'll support and guide you sharing their knowledge and expertise. Finally you can expect to have a buddy, either a previous apprentice or graduate from this scheme. Your buddy can answer any day to day questions you have and share their experiences with you.
During the scheme you'll not only complete the qualification but also have opportunities to complete additional training courses. These will vary from soft skills training to technical skills training. Your sponsors and placement managers will ensure you attend all the relevant training to support you in your role.
You will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, adaptable and resilient.
With a strong ability to focus on results, you will be forward-thinking, results-driven and be full of innovative ideas, which you will deliver using your strong communication skills to build relationships with a range of internal teams and external suppliers.
As an apprentice, you'll work towards a Level 4 Diploma in Project Management by completing a portfolio of work, one exam and a professional discussion. At the end of the scheme, successful apprentices could progress into a project coordinator position, which could lead to further career progression opportunities such as assistant project manager, project manager and senior project manager. The project management community at TfL is made up of over 1400 people, which, combined with the variety of our projects, creates huge scope for your professional development.
