Quantity Surveying Apprenticeship

    *One candidate, one application*

We can only accept one scheme application per candidate. Applying for more than one scheme could mean that you won't be considered for your preferred choice.

    Scheme overview

One of the biggest challenges we face is upgrading an infrastructure which dates back to 1863, while still running an efficient service. But it also makes this an exciting time to be part of London Underground; you'll contribute to our development programme across the transport network, which could include other areas of the transport infrastructure such as London Overground and DLR.

    Scheme length
    Two years
    Entry requirements

Five GCSEs, grade A*-C or certified equivalent, including maths and English language. Applicants must be 18 by 1 September 2016.

Salaries will differ according to the scheme. However, all our schemes offer a competitive package with the minimum London living wage.
This apprenticeship may be a route to:
Assistant commercial manager, commercial manager, and senior commercial manager,
    This scheme is now closed.

    Joining us

Initially, you will have a three-day induction in London, which tells you all you need to know about us, your role and where you fit in. Following that, you'll begin an intensive development programme, designed to give your career a real kickstart. Spread over two years, our Quantity Surveying (QS) apprenticeship includes a comprehensive, structured training programme which is designed to introduce you to a variety of areas.

As a member of the Commercial team you could play a part in delivering some of the most exciting and challenging transport, rail and engineering projects in London.

This scheme includes placements around TfL to gain a broad knowledge of different types of projects, and an understanding of what it takes to provide services successfully.

    Who we need

We're looking for highly-motivated people who are as passionate as we are about delivering a great transport service.

Our commercial managers need to keep up to date with the latest methods and technologies, so you'll be keen to learn all about your chosen field. You'll also understand the importance of health and safety.

Working on large and complex projects will also demand excellent organisational skills, a good approach to problem-solving, an ability to work well in teams and strong inter-personal skills.

The role is based at various locations across London, and you could be working on the £500m redevelopment of Victoria Underground station, the Northern Line Extension, or upgrading other infrastructure assets managed and maintained by London Underground.

What you get out of it

    During your apprenticeship, you'll gain:

    • NVQ Level 3 Surveying, Property and Maintenance
    • Level 3 Construction and Built Environment (surveying) Diploma
    • Paid employment
    • An apprenticeship qualification

You'll also have the opportunity to do an applicable bachelor's degree in quantity surveying.

We want our staff to pass on their skills and expertise to the next generation of project staff. At the end of the scheme, successful apprentices will move into a junior quantity surveyor position, with further career progression opportunities through to assistant commercial manager, commercial manager and potentially, senior commercial manager.

When you become one of our apprentices, you'll also receive:

      • At least 29 days annual leave, plus standard public holidays
      •  Free travel on our networks (Zones 1-9) with an Oyster card for you and one member of your household
      • A 75% reimbursement on the price of an annual travel ticket outside of our network - plus an interest-free, 10-month loan to pay for it
      • Pension scheme membership
      • Optional private medical benefit
      • A range of staff retail and leisure discounts
