Improving station information

In recent years, London's population has boomed to 8.6 million and is expected to reach 10 million in the next 15 years.

This means an expected extra five million journeys on our network a day by 2031. That's the equivalent of having one full Tube train arriving every three days for the next 15 years.

What we're doing

We are continuing to invest in programmes to create more room in stations and on trains and to provide more frequent services and better information about the busiest times and places on the Tube.

Even with all our investment programmes it can get very busy at specific times at the most heavily used places on our network.

Some of this crowding and congestion happens for short periods of time and in predictable places. We also know that not everyone can change the time they travel, so we're providing better station information to help you have a quicker and more comfortable journey.

Our ongoing programme of station information improvements includes:

  • Direct customer information on the busiest times and travel options for quicker and more comfortable journeys
  • Maps showing walking times and steps between stations - see our walking section
  • Working with businesses to develop new and improved customer communications
  • Working with developers to find ways of using datasets to maximise capacity on the network
