Making a journey better
Confident independent travel is only possible when people feel that they know how to deal with unusual situations and enjoyable journeys only happen when everyone has respect for the needs of other passengers and staff. The activities in this section deal with attitudes to criminal damage, identifying risks and resisting peer pressure to equip your class with a thorough understanding of how they can make journeys better for everyone.
Activities within this section will deliver the following National Curriculum Citizenship Objectives:
1a Children should be taught to talk and write about their opinions and explain their views, on issues that affect themselves and society
2bChildren should be taught to know why and how rules are made and enforced, why rules are needed in different situations.
2c children should be taught to realise the consequences of anti-social and aggressive behaviours on individuals and communities
3e children should be taught to recognise the different risks in different situations and then decide how to behave responsibly
3f Children should be taught to know that pressure to behave in an unacceptable or risky way can come from a variety of sources, including people that they know, and how to ask for help and use basic techniques for resisting pressure to do wrong.
4a children should be taught to know that their actions affect themselves and others, to care about other people's feelings and to try to see things from their point of view.
