A long history with TfL
I joined London Transport (a company that subsequently formed TfL) because it offered me the chance to develop my interest in Transport Planning, and great career prospects. I also wanted the opportunity to study for a Masters Degree in Transport Planning. However, when I did my placement as Station Supervisor in the Green Park Group my career changed direction and I decided to move into customer service delivery. It's a decision I'm still glad I made. I enjoy being active every day, working alongside staff to sort out customer problems and delivering a world-class service. I love the instant rewards you feel, helping someone get where they need to be, or helping a member of staff prepare for a job they eventually get - you feel a real sense of achievement.
Working for thousands of Londoners every day
My job involves the management of 260 train operators either directly or through my team. We ensure the Piccadilly Line is running a full train service at all times. Each day I spend time with staff, sorting out any problems and being accessible to them, which I think is really important. I'm proud of the impact we have on thousands of customers' lives every hour. I enjoy the people I work with and the customers I work for. I'm a proud public servant and fully realise the impact London Underground has on ensuring London remains a world-class city.
A steady progression throughout my career
I've progressed steadily through the operational management grades and am working to obtain promotion to senior management next. I've been lucky to receive support and encouragement from TfL in gaining further training. As well as my masters in Transport Planning, I've completed a Diploma in Management Studies, a Neuro-Linguistc Programming Practitioners course and a National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) safety course. If you're motivated, ambitious and keen to contribute then individuals are supported in their development. If you improve yourself, you're going to do a better job for the service, and that's why we're here.
Contributing to one of the world's greatest cities
If you enjoy the vibrant and dynamic feel of London and want to feel part of the fabric of the city, then this graduate scheme is for you. If you like working with people from all walks of life, thrive on responsibility and want to be challenged, and if you want to be developed and encouraged to better yourself, you'll do well here. I've always been glad I made the decision to join London Underground management scheme. It enabled me to meet so many different people over the first two years and gave me a foundation as a manager - someone who looks to learn, challenge the status quo, and lead improvements to the service we provide.
