We operate the world's largest and busiest underground railway - an infrastructure that dates back more than 150 years.
It certainly brings its challenges, which is why we're now in the midst of a far-reaching transformation.
Over the course of three years, you'll work on a wide mix of hugely exciting projects across the network.
You'll contribute to major renewals and upgrades.
You'll be at the very heart of our business during the most substantial period of change the service has seen for 70 years.
Placements
Placements usually last between three and nine months and may occasionally be with our partner suppliers. They are likely to include:
- On-site works with major projects (eg Tottenham Court Road)
- Design work associated with a significant infrastructure improvement project
- Infrastructure protection
- Maintenance and remedial works programmes
- Engineering governance of infrastructure projects
Further education and professional studies
You'll train under agreement with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) on the accredited TfL training scheme, which should lead to you gaining Chartered Engineer status within around five years.

Entry requirements and minimum criteria
You'll need a 2:1 MEng degree (or equivalent) in civil engineering (or a closely aligned discipline), accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers.
- Graduate in appropriate discipline with appropriate classification - 2:1
- Degree accredited by the ICE
- Ability to work on site where necessary
- High standards of written communication, verbal, numerical and inductive (ability to deal with ambiguous data) reasoning
- High standards of verbal communication
- Skilled in analysis and problem solving
- Keen on embracing change
- Collaborative, and keen to share information, knowledge and skills
- A strong focus on internal and external customers
- A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
- Keen to seek out new opportunities for learning and career progression and challenges
- Be able to identify the goals of any project and work steadily towards them
- Able to take a structured and methodical approach to any task, identifying priorities and setting deadlines
If you're successful you'll have to pass pre-employment checks before joining. These will include reference checks, qualifications checks, right to work in the UK and in some cases a medical and a Criminal Records Bureau check.
