South Kensington station is a gateway to London's famous museum and cultural quarter. It's one of London's busiest stations and sees tens of millions of visitors every year.

In December 2023, we've got planning permission to build a new development. It will restore and improve South Kensington Underground station and the surrounding streets.

The development will be delivered by our property company Places for London in partnership with Native Land.

Station upgrade plans

The development will offer a range of benefits, including:

  • Step-free access to the District and Circle lines via a new entrance on Thurloe Street
  • A new expanded ticket hall and staircase to help reduce congestion within the station
  • A new dedicated platform for eastbound District and Circle line services
  • 50 new homes, 35% of which will be affordable
  • New restaurant units to support the local economy

Visit the Native Land website for more information about the development of the land around the station.

Timeline

We're now drawing up the programme for this new development. It has been carefully considered to respect the area's unique and important heritage.

We'll update this page with more information soon.
